CCA basketball teams advance

Chilton Christian Academy’s boys and girls basketball teams this week advanced to the Alabama Christian Education Athletic Association state playoffs.

The boys defeated Brooklane, 46-40, on Tuesday behind the performances of Chris Lassinger (14 points and six steals), Griffin Moore (12 points and 12 rebounds) and Matt Klein (11 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals).

The Patriots (4-5 in conference play) next play Tabernacle Christian (Gardendale) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa.

CCA’s girls defeated Marion Academy, 53-24, on Thursday.

Mary’l Smitherman had 12 points and three steals for the Patriots (12-3), and Rebekah Kirkland posted 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The girls play their first-round game at noon on Feb. 24 at Shelton State.
