Heart of Dixie Pageant to benefit JHS Band

It is not too late to enter the 14th Annual Heart of Dixie Pageant and Most Photogenic Contest sponsored by Jemison Blue Regiment Band Boosters.
The pageant will be Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Jemison High School Auditorium.
Newborn to 11-year-olds will compete at 3 p.m., and girls 12-21 years old will compete at 7 p.m.
No interviews are required for the pageant, and scholarships will be awarded to the winners of the two highest age groups.
The 16-18 age group’s winner will receive a minimum $200 scholarship to the college of her choice, and the 19-21 age group’s winner will receive a minimum $400 scholarship to the college of her choice.
Band Boosters President Kelly Meeks said the scholarship amounts might be higher depending on money collected from admissions.
“We won’t know until the night of the pageant,” Meeks said.
Admission is $4 for students, $5 for adults and free for children 4 and under.

Meeks said the Heart of Dixie winner from 2010, Keely Patterson, was crowned Miss Mississippi USA in 2011.
“Each year, it’s grown considerably,” Meeks said. “We’ve had great success, and it is the band’s biggest fundraiser. We thank everybody for their support.”
The judges are from the pageant circuit but are not affiliated with Chilton County, Meeks said.
Attire is evening or pageant wear.
Practice for all participants will be Feb. 23 in the JHS Auditorium at 4 p.m. for ages 10-21 and 5 p.m. for ages newborn to 9.
Practice is not mandatory but strongly encouraged. Guidelines and registration procedures will be given out at practice.
The deadline to register is Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Registration fees are $50 for the pageant and photogenic contest, $35 for the pageant and $20 for the photogenic contest.

Forms may be turned in at the JHS Office or mailed with payment to Heart of Dixie Pageant, Jemison Band Boosters, P.O. Box 157, Jemison, AL 35085.
