Published 8:45pm Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Lucile McFarland celebrated her 90th birthday Sunday, Oct. 23 at Helen Jenkins Chapel in Thorsby.

McFarland was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Thorsby to Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCain and spent most of her life in Chilton County. She worked to earn her tuition to attend the prestigious private high school Thorsby Institute.

McFarland opens gifts at her recent 90th birthday party.

Among her many services to others, she has been a storyteller, an entertainer in area churches and senior citizens’ homes, and shares her home-baked sourdough bread and strawberry jam to friends and family.

McFarland was also named Ms. Senior Chilton County in 2009 and held the title for one year.

During the celebration on Sunday, her doctor, Dr. Charles Solomon, among others, said a few words. He described McFarland as “vivacious” and “always thinking of others first.”

“She is never too busy to help others,” Solomon added.

Entertainment was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sanders of Clanton.
