Billingsley shuts out VHS

The Billingsley Bears picked up their seventh win Friday night, defeating the Verbena Red Devils, 34-0.

It was just what Billingsley coach Tyson McLean said he wanted to see last week — the Bears ending their season 7-3, the reverse of last year’s 3-7 record.

Quarterback Preston Wallace struck first, connecting with Torrey Green for a 36-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Jimmie Lanier tacked on a two-point conversion.

No one would score again until the third quarter, when the Wallace-Green duo teamed up for a 15-yard TD. Wallace later found Carlos Caver, scoring from 16 yards out.

With 9:34 left in the fourth quarter, Verbena’s Jaryus Wilson intercepted a pass, but the Devils didn’t capitalize.

Caver scored again for the Bears, and the conversion attempt failed. The Bears quickly regained possession after recovering a fumble, and Wallace took it in from Verbena’s 10-yard line.

Wallace completed nine of 16 passes for 125 yards, and Caver picked up 125 yards rushing in 19 carries.

Next week the Bears travel to Flomaton for the first round of the state playoffs.
