Chamber building being renovated
By Justin Averette Published 10:51am Friday, September 2, 2011The face of Chilton County to visitors and business people, the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, is getting a facelift.
The chamber’s building, located in a house on Fifth Avenue North, will be getting a new exterior, side porches and some improvements on the inside too. The city of Clanton owns the building and property bordering City Park and is helping with the renovations, said Mike Robertson, the Chamber’s executive director.
The most noticeable difference for people visiting the Chamber will be the new vinyl siding, which will replace the current wooden exterior. Work around the windows and shutters will also be done.
Inside, some of the walls will be painted and new carpet installed. Some painting will also be done outside.
The renovations started about a month ago and are expected to be finished around the first of October.
“I think when this is finished it will be a showplace,” said Robertson. “We are just thrilled over it.”
I’m not crazy about sticking vinyl siding on a old house like that, but I can understand that it’s easier to care for than wooden siding.
I drove by it this morning, the side porch is looking good!
