Local rates for EDC a good idea

Published 4:27pm Tuesday, May 17, 2011

The construction of a campus of Jefferson State Community College has been one of the most important developments in recent Clanton—and Chilton County—history.

Local high school students taking the junior college route no longer have to look outside the county to find a quality education, one that will prepare them to either enter the work force or further their studies at a four-year institute of higher learning.

The local Jeff State campus became even more important to the county and its largest city upon the completion of the Economic Development Center, which includes a 608-seat performance hall and a 13,000-sq. feet exhibit hall.

To encourage local residents renting the facility, which is operated by Jeff State and owned by the college and the city, local rates were announced recently.

Such rates—which are about two-thirds of the standard rates—are a great idea to get local people using the facility.

The EDC is a great addition to Chilton County, and it needs to be put to good use.
