The Get Moving Jemison Fun Walk and Expo was held Saturday at the Jemison Municipal Complex.

According to event coordinator Ginny Hallmark, the event accomplished its goals: have a good turn-out, and get the community active.

“It was a huge success,” she said. “We had 200 people come out for the walk; 15 booths for the expo.”

The event began with the fun walk, which covered about a 2-mile distance from the complex to Jemison City Park, where the expo was being held.

Hallmark said the purpose of the event was to help raise awareness about the benefits of exercise, along with teaching about making healthy choices.

According to Hallmark, the plans are to hold the event again next year.

“We’re going to have a 5k and fun walk next year. We’ll [hold the event] all day next year. We’ll have performers all day.”
