Donald Joshua Newman

Officer Donald Joshua “Josh” Newman, age 30, of Clanton was killed in the line of duty on March 5, 2011, while responding to a call. He was born on April 8, 1980, in Macon, Ga., the son of Donald Edward Newman and Ginger Fulmer Autrey.

Josh served his country in the United States Air Force. He served duties in Turkey, Oman and Iraq. He also served his community as a law enforcement officer for the city of Jemison.

He is survived by: wife, Tracy Thornton Newman; son, Jace Newman; mother, Ginger (Dennis) Autrey; father, Donald Newman; sister, Flessica Mercer; sister, Jennifer (Joe) Monroe; brother, Mark Newman; grandfather, Billy F. Fulmer; grandparents, Donald and Eddie Mae Newman; in-laws, Jeff and Carolyn Mims; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 9 after 5 p.m. at the Jemison Municipal Complex.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 from the Jemison Municipal Complex with the Rev. Kalvin Smitherman officiating.

Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Cemetery in Jemison with Ellison-Mims Funeral Home of Clanton directing the services.
